You're collection has a specific artistic feel, what is the inspiration behind that?

I'm very inspired by art and travel. I was an art history major in college, and one of my favorite things to do is visit museums. I'm currently in Paris and visited the Louvre. It was incredible! I also just recently visited India, which played a huge role in the development of my Spring 2011 Kara by Kara Ross collection.

You are a certified gemologist, how has this training helped prepare you for where you are today?

It certainly gave me a deep appreciation for gemstones.

What is the most unique material you have worked with to create a piece of jewelry?

Lava - I created a beautiful cuff with diamond accents.

If you weren't a designer what would you be doing?

Working in advertising. My first job out of college was in Harper's Bazaar's advertising department.

What is one accessory that you can't live without?

The mother of pearl bangles from my Gemstone Collection. They are so easy to throw on, as well as to travel with.

What is your definition of style?

Being comfortable and confident in what you are wearing.

How would you describe your customer?

Confident, savvy, unafraid of taking risks.

What is one trend you would like to never see repeat itself?

I'm more of a classic dresser myself, but I'm not one to criticize another person's style - more power to them!

How do you see the Kara Ross brand growing in the future?

We recently launched the Gemstone Collection, which is made of sterling silver, 18K gold and gemstones - the pieces are very architectural and absolutely beautiful. We are constantly looking for new ways to redefine luxury and our future is always about translating those into our brand. Maybe one day we'll be designing a Kara Ross boutique!
